What is Mount Brandon?

Mount Brandon is the story of the fictional eruption of a volcano near the city of Brandon that takes place in August of 1951. It is loosely based on the Mount Lamington eruption of the same year, and is very very loosely based on the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The name of the city that was destroyed in the eruption is actually Brandon, Mississippi. The Volcano's real name is brandon Volcanic Complex, since it was originally a collection of vents and small cones, but the current peak, the one that now covers the original vents, and also the one that destroys the city, is named Mount Brandon.
